What the Penny Pinching Parent family thinks of the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics…

We received the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics for Christmas last year. My daughter was 11 and a half months old. At the time she was little young for it, but I went ahead and put it on the fridge. She was immediately drawn to it. We would sit there in front of the fridge with her and show her how to place the letters in the little letter reader. At the time she did not have the motor skills to really do it on her own, but loved all the colors and the music and trying to do it on her own.

Now at 22 months my daughter loves this toy and so do I. It is such a great way to preoccupy her with an activity while mommy is cooking dinner or doing the dishes. She loves to put the letters into the letter reader and hear the sound that each letter makes. At 22 months she can recognize quite a few letters in books and when we are out and about and I do think that this toy has contributed to her being able to do so. It is also a great leanring toy for colors and songs. It’s pretty cute to see her dancing to the music.

This toy does require 3 AAA batteries…. I have not had to replace them 11 months, so it’s not a bog battery drainer. There is an on/off switch and there are two volume levels. We tend to leave it on in the loud position due to normal kitchen noises like cooking and the dishwasher.

Is this toy a good value and would I suggest it?

You bet! At $20-is dollars this toy is a great value. At under $10 at Target it’s a steal. It’s a simple toy without too many bells and whistles and will grow with your child as they grow and develop. We have paid much more for other toys that have been used half as much. I would be hard pressed to think of another toy that has consistently been played with like this one has at our house.

See the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics on the Penny Pinching Parent family fridge…

It just snatched my digital camera on a whim to do this and would have chickened out if I took time to get out camcorder… it’s a little grainy. Also, please be gentle it’s my first video review.

Oh and by the way… I was born in the south and have lived here all my life, so that is really the way I talk! :o )

Yes I signed up on the learning paths for each of my kids so I got an email for each with a link to the coupons. This is the link, not sure if it will work, but if anyone wants to try. If it doesn’t work, I can email you direct. http://www.leapfrog.com/en/landingpages/coupons/090131.html?p%3D2682317%26cpt1%3DO5wfqooOqCcs7atbJcsx%26cpt2%3DKXAWxjdTnrjwf8pWtlfU%26cpt3%3Dkgf2JS7vQ8bIKZITN4Tp%26cpt4%3DMGWH8bw5oUFM1phXuTGu%26cpt5%3DTR2KcwfRsduLyWgCvgx1

    Dani-

Too funny, I got her the Farm one for Christmas and plan on picking up the DJ this weekend. Gives her something fun to do so she can be near momma while I’m cooking.

I will need to double check and make sure I completed her learning path… I thought I did everything, but it has been one of those weeks!

Thanks for the comment and thank you for reading PPP!

I plan to get the Fridge Phonics for my daughter for Xmas or her birthday, she loves the Fridge DJ and the Fridge Magnetic Farm, so I’m sure the Phonics will be a hit too.

Also, after signing up for the emails at LeapFrog I believe you had to fill out info on your child to get their “learning path”. Once the learning path was completed I got the email with coupon info.

Do you know if they e-mail the coupons or if you print them out from somewhere on LeapFrog’s site? I signed-up the other day (first time registration) and I haven’t received anything.

I will take another look around the LeapFrog site and see if I can find them. As soon as I figure out how to get those extra coupons I will make sure to update the post.

Thank you again and thanks for reading PPP!
